Intention

Intention:

We are taking a "year Out" with our family in order to deepen our connection to one another by exploring the world together.

This is a trip of a lifetime and will be an education for us all.

I am hoping that spending this time together, uninterrupted by the usual routines of our day to day life will strengthen our relationships, give us the opportunity to learn from each other and learn more about each other.

I know that simply by traveling we will learn in countless ways.

We will be doing a self design home schooling program that I hope will help internalize this learning and support meaningful reflection.

Ruben's Cornwall

This week here in Cornwall has been really special!
We are staying in a lovely Manor over looking green fields with horses and sheep. We say grace over meals with our host Brian and our hostess who is a Vicar. They also have a ritual of lighting several candles each night for friends , family or those who have died. In this way we have thought of our cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends and beloved dog and lit a candle for each.We went to the city of Truro and went to Evensong in the Cathedral. The Cathedral had wonderfully arched ceilings that caught the voices of the boy’s choir magnificently. At the service the ritual of burning incense in a swinging ornate case was intriguing.
I have made a friend who lives close by and he has adorable lambs on his farm. He also has a number of musical instruments including a guitar and drum kit. We played a game of basketball and laser tag together. I have grown really attached to Desmond Tutu the dog (Des for short), Puddy the cat and Anastasia the pig who enjoys her breakfast of compost each morning. I have been feeding the chickens and cows and taking Des for a walk every day.
We have gone on multiple hikes including the most southerly point of England, The Lizard Peninsula. There has been hundreds of shipwrecks around The Lizard. There were eggs for sale on the side of the path dubbed thee Most Southerly eggs. It was terrific to think that Africa lay placed beyond the horizon. Another walk took us to a lovely beach called Peranporth where Mia and I had a fun time messing about.
I am thoroughly enjoying my awesome new book series CHERUB. It is about a kid named James involved in riveting spy missions. I am reading plowing through 3 books a week. I recently purchased an inspiring Manga drawing handbook. It has helped me with a new style and technique in my cartooning. The book has also given me loads of ideas, so many in fact I have decided to do a cartooning project. A 9 page comic of manga with a good story line.
A hilarious play we went to in Ladock was called Toad of Toad Hall, from the well known book Wind in the Willows.

That’s it for this week,
Ruben!
