Intention

Intention:

We are taking a "year Out" with our family in order to deepen our connection to one another by exploring the world together.

This is a trip of a lifetime and will be an education for us all.

I am hoping that spending this time together, uninterrupted by the usual routines of our day to day life will strengthen our relationships, give us the opportunity to learn from each other and learn more about each other.

I know that simply by traveling we will learn in countless ways.

We will be doing a self design home schooling program that I hope will help internalize this learning and support meaningful reflection.

Details to date:

We left Vancouver on Thursday August 18th and headed east.  We opted to take the Trans Canada and the BC  landscape quickly changed. We had beautiful views of the Fraser and Thompson Rivers. Tom and the kids took a quick  swim to cool off.
We had our first meal in the Van parked on the side of a road by a cow field. We ate fresh volunteer potatoes that Tom dug up from our garden on Cortes and fresh veggies bought a road side stand
The next morning the cows looked on as Ruben did his Ki So Do forms.
In Revestoke we went to Canda's tallest dam, it was very Impressive.
We then had a great time rafting down the Illecillewaet which is a tributary of the Columbia River.
From Revelstoke we headed to Glacier National Park. There the  kids saw a  Marten with a Chip monk in its mouth as they waited for dinner by the camp fire. First thing in the morning we we headed on a 4.2 km mountain hike. The kids were determined to reach snow, they persevered and we were lucky enough to see in addition to the snow,  two squeaking Pikas, a Grouse  and many wild flowers including Indian Paintbrush as well as Devils club. All of us were amazed by the slabs of shiny cool rock (slate) and beautiful big chunks of Quartzite. The four and half hour hike tired us out and we cooled our feet in the icy glacier fed stream before continuing east and heading over the Rockies.
We made our way to Calgary for showers and a comfortable sleep at the Woolgar's. Here in Calgary we finally  saw the latest Harry Potter film. Mia and Ruben are learning to make Yorkshire puddings with Mary Jo to go with our Alberta beef for tonight's dinner.
Note worthy about Calgary is that the traffic lights are sideways.
Tomorrow we head for Dinosaur park.
